Why did Jesus curse the fig tree for not having fruit when it was out of season for figs? The fruit that Jesus was looking for in Israel that would cause them to be left to grow or cut down was not good works. It was repentance. We are not the owner of the vineyard. We don't have the authority to wield the axe. We are the farmer who is to work the soil and lead people to repentance. Repentance is the gateway to reconciliation.
